Deep within the mesmerizing rolling meadows, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His being was mostly untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His main role was to tend to his herd of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the whispering of the gales among the single tree on the hilltop were his only companions. Day in day, guarding his charges imbued in him a feeling of tranquil contentment.

But, there were at website times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for company. In one such instance out of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a mischievous plot.

Tales of wolves preying on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.

One afternoon he dashed into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but found no beast.

The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This trick continued for a few more days. However, one noon, a real wolf did come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.

The story of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is difficult to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
